Kenyan Environmentalist Hillary Kiplagat Kibiwott

Kenyan environmentalist Hillary Kiplagat Kibiwott, 29 years old, has set a new record by planting 23,326 tree seedlings in just 24 hours, surpassing the previous record of 23, 060 set by Canada’s Antoine Moses in 2021.

Kiplagat’s efforts were carried out under strict monitor and verification, making it as personal mission and national achievement to Kenya’s commitment to reforestation and climate action.

He set to plant 24,000 tree seedlings within 24 hours, a goal would have broken records, but he fell short. Although, he did not reach the goal he still made a remarkable achievement, to earning him a place in the records books.

“This is just more than a record, it’s a call to action. Every tree planted is a step to restore our environment, fight climate change and secure a greener future for the generations to come,” he said after completing the challenge.

Kiplagat’s achievement comes at a time when Kenya is campaigning tree planting, with the government pledged to plant 15 billion trees by 2032.

Environmental groups have hailed Kiplagat leadership, determination and vision towards achieving this goal.  “This is not just number, but it’s a message that every individual can make a difference,” noted a conservationist.
