President William Ruto has revoked the appointment of former Mbeere North MP Charles Muriuki Njagagua as the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Consolidated Bank of Kenya, bringing an end to his nearly three-year tenure at the state-owned financial institution.
In a Gazette Notice dated October 3, President Ruto said the revocation takes effect immediately, citing powers conferred under the State Corporations Act and the Interpretation and General Provisions Act.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6 (1) (a) of the State Corporations Act, as read together with section 51 (1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, revoke the appointment of Charles Muriuki Njagagua as the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of Consolidated Bank,” the notice read.
Njagagua was appointed to the role in February 2023, shortly after losing the Mbeere North parliamentary race to the current Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku.
The revocation comes barely a month after Deputy President Kithure Kindiki unveiled Njagagua as the head of the UDA secretariat tasked with coordinating campaign efforts in the upcoming Mbeere North by-election.
During the unveiling, Kindiki praised Njagagua’s leadership and unity efforts after all UDA aspirants agreed to support one candidate, Leonard Muriuki (Leo).
“We are delighted that all our aspirants have agreed to endorse one candidate. This shows the strength of our democracy and unity of purpose,” Kindiki said at the time, commending Njagagua for his selflessness in stepping aside.
Meanwhile, Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has announced new appointments to the Consolidated Bank Board.
In the same Gazette Notice, Mbadi named Kennedy Ntabo Otiso, Edward Kiplimo Bittok, and George Mokua as new members of the board for a three-year term beginning October 3, 2025.
Their appointments replace those of Kenneth Gatheru Gatiithi, Harun Kipkemei Mosop, and Jedidah Karwitha Mwiti, whose terms have been revoked.
