The family of Allan Kamau, who died while in custody at Kumwamu Police Station in Migori County, is asking the reasons after a post-mortem report revealed that he died due to asphyxiation.
The report, nevertheless, went only halfway to confirm whether the death was self-inflicted or caused by another person, thus the relatives have more questions than answers about what happened in the jail.
To make their suffering even worse, a decision has been taken to allow a police officer suspected of being involved in Kamau’s death to witness the performance of the autopsy. The human rights activists and family members have strongly criticized the decision, saying that it is one of the clever ways to interrupt the course of justice.
The family is now asking for a different, sincere investigation into the events of Kamau’s death and being extremely adamant that justice has to be done.
