The Kenyan Government has initiated comprehensive reforms aimed at strengthening the country’s anti-doping framework, reaffirming Kenya’s global reputation as a powerhouse of clean athletics and fair competition.

Speaking on the progress, Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya announced that the reforms will bolster the technical capacity of the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK) by establishing a robust policy and legal framework aligned with international best practices.

To ensure ADAK has the resources needed to carry out its mandate effectively, the National Treasury has committed to ring-fencing funding for anti-doping programs.

“The government is providing an action plan and clear commitment, beginning with the supplementary budget, to allocate additional funding for ADAK within this financial year,” said CS Mvurya.

As part of the reforms, the government is also restructuring ADAK to strengthen its governance and technical capacity in line with global standards.

“We are reviewing the agency’s organogram to onboard the right experts and enhance ADAK’s operational efficiency in managing anti-doping initiatives,” Mvurya added.

Kenya has made significant strides in aligning its anti-doping regime with the requirements of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). Of the 35 compliance issues previously raised by WADA, 30 have already been addressed. A progressive action plan is in place to resolve the remaining five.

“We are in constant communication with WADA regarding the implementation of the corrective action plan, and we expect a positive response in the coming months. This reflects the government’s firm commitment to protecting the integrity of our sport,” Mvurya affirmed.

He also highlighted that Kenya’s recent success at the World Athletics Championships was a “clean win,” with the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) confirming that all Kenyan athletes had been cleared of any doping violations.

“This is a testament to the investments we’ve made in safeguarding the credibility of Kenyan athletics on the international stage,” he concluded.
