Kenya, India Deepen Defence Ties With Focus on Maritime Security

India’s High Commissioner to Kenya, Dr Adarsh Swaika, has held talks aimed at strengthening bilateral defence cooperation, with a focus on capacity building and maritime security in the Indian Ocean region.

Dr Swaika paid a courtesy call on the Commander of the Kenya Navy, Major General Paul Otieno, at the Kenya Navy Headquarters in Mtongwe.

The discussions highlighted key milestones achieved through longstanding Navy-to-Navy cooperation between India and Kenya.

As part of the visit, the Indian delegation toured the Radiology Complex at the Kenya Navy Hospital, a flagship project supported by the Government of India.

The facility is equipped with a state-of-the-art CT scan machine, significantly enhancing diagnostic capabilities and improving medical care for naval personnel.

At the Kenya Naval Training College, Dr Swaika donated 150 books, reinforcing the shared commitment to professional military education and human resource development.

Major General Otieno expressed appreciation for India’s crucial role in supporting the Kenya Navy’s capacity development in addressing shared maritime and security challenges.

Under the Joint Vision Statement, BAHARI, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to maritime security, operational readiness, and translating strategic objectives into concrete outcomes that promote regional stability and mutual growth.
