The initiative seeks to position Kakuma as a hub for Olympic talent by providing refugees with the opportunity to engage in various sports activities.
“We are committed to working closely with the IOC and UNHCR to develop pathways for refugees to participate in sports and realize their full potential,” President Ruto stated.
During the discussions, President Ruto and Mr. Bach explored potential partnerships between the IOC and the Kenya Academy of Sports.

These collaborations aim to enhance sports infrastructure, and develop education and training programs tailored for aspiring athletes within the refugee community.
“This partnership will not only advance sports in Kenya but also empower those who have faced significant challenges,” he added.
The meeting marks a significant step toward fostering inclusivity and promoting the potential of refugee athletes in Kenya.
By investing in their sports development, the government hopes to create a supportive environment that nurtures talent and encourages social integration.
