The 66th Annual Scientific Conference of the National Nurses Association of Kenya (NNAK) is currently underway in Nairobi, with the theme “Our Nurses, Our Future:Addressing Nursing Care Workforce Challenges for Accelerated Economic Growth in Kenya.”
The conference is focused on addressing key challenges faced by the nursing workforce, recognized as a critical pillar for achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and sustainable healthcare in the country.
In her address, Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards, Mary Muthoni, reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening the nursing profession.
“Investing in our nursing workforce is not only a moral imperative but a strategic necessity,” she said.
The PS highlighted the Ministry of Health’s efforts to expand training programs, increase employment opportunities, and support the professional development of nurses.
Muthoni also emphasized the role of nurses in the country’s healthcare transformation, stating, “Nurses will play a pivotal role in delivering holistic care through the Primary Care Networks as we work towards UHC.”
The government continues to work closely with key stakeholders to ensure nurses are empowered and supported to lead in healthcare delivery.
