Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba has dismissed claims that the government censored and stopped Butere Girls High School drama students from performing their controversial Echoes of War play.
In the ongoing National Drama and Film Festival in Nakuru, the Butere Girls students staged a walkout from the stage during their performance time.
Speaking in Nakuru, Ogamba denied government involvement, saying the students, on their own will, declined to perform.
The CS said the students demanded the presence of Cleophas Malalah, who Ogamba said is not a teacher at the school.
"The students were allowed to perform at 8am, when they came, one of them stepped forward and said they are not going to perform without their director Malalah, Malalah is not a teacher in Butere, he is not a director of Butere, he is not a director of that play, so the students on their own volition decided not to perform," said Ogamba.
