Nottingham Forest has announced that Kenyan defender Bartley Okello has signed his first professional contract with the Premier League club.

The 17-year-old has secured his future at Forest until June 2029, Premier League confirming that the promising academy talent has committed to a multi-year deal that will keep him at the City Ground.

Okello’s journey began at the age of seven, when he joined Forest’s pre-academy. Over the years, he has steadily risen through the ranks, impressing coaches with his composure, tactical awareness and ability to defend situations.

Forest Head of Academy Chris McGuane praised Okello’s development, describing him as a strong character and hardworking person.

“We are delighted that Okello has signed his first professional contract. It is a reward for his hard work and consistency throughout his development at the club,” McGuane said.

McGuane also praised Okello’s character and attitude, noting the youngster’s desire to continue improving both on and off the pitch.

“Okello is a fantastic individual who has represented England at youth level and has an incredible desire to develop as both a player and a person. He embodies the values of the club and has a strong family support network around him,” he said.

Okello represented England at youth level and his eligibility for Kenya’s Harambee Stars remains intact. His background also makes him a prospect worth following, particularly as Kenya continues to prepare for future continental competitions and strengthen its long-term football ambitions.

The academy leadership emphasized that the next stage of his journey will require sustained commitment, discipline and a willingness to learn as he works towards the possibility of senior football.
