President William Ruto has come out strongly in defence of the newly launched Social Health Authority, urging Kenyans to dismiss what he termed as “propaganda” and instead support the government’s universal healthcare program.
Speaking during the funeral of former Cabinet Minister John Koech in Olbutyo, Chepalungu Constituency, Bomet County, President Ruto highlighted the strides made in the rollout of the new health scheme.
The head of state revealed that over 21 million Kenyans have already registered for the Social Health Authority, with 47,000 registering on Monday alone.“This is a transformative program that guarantees access to healthcare for all. Already, millions are benefiting from free treatment at dispensaries, health centres, and sub-county hospitals,” Ruto stated.
Addressing public concerns over medical supplies, the President announced an additional allocation of KSh10 billion to the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA). He said the funds would ensure timely and direct delivery of medical supplies to health facilities across the country.
Beyond healthcare, Ruto also highlighted key government achievements in agriculture, education, and infrastructure. He challenged his critics to propose tangible alternatives rather than discredit ongoing efforts.
The event was held in honour of the late John Koech, a respected political figure who served as the Member of Parliament for Chepalungu for over two decades. Koech was a member of the late President Daniel Arap Moi’s cabinet and later served as Minister for East African Regional Cooperation under President Mwai Kibaki.
Koech passed away on Tuesday last week.President Ruto praised him as a dedicated public servant whose legacy will be remembered for years to come.
