Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi has dropped a bombshell, linking National Intelligence Service (NIS) boss Noordin Haji to the reported abduction of his son Leslie Muturi in June 2024.
It all started after Muturi issued a statement condemning the Kenya Kwanza government over the alleged surge in abductions, saying he suffered when Leslie was kidnapped.
In a statement to police on Tuesday, the CS narrated that on the fateful day, his son was in the company of Embakasi West MP Mark Mwenje and Marangu Imanyara at Alfajiri Lounge before deciding to go to a birthday party in Lavington.
Per Muturi’s account, it was while driving to Lavington that Leslie was waylaid by armed hooded gangsters along Dennis Pritt Road, forced into a Prado before the vehicle drove off.
After the abduction, the former National Assembly speaker said he made several calls to the then Inspector General (IG) of Police, Japhet Koome, Interior Ministry PS Raymond Omollo, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations boss Mohammed Amin, NIS’s Haji, then Interior CS Kithure Kindiki but all could not help him locate Leslie.
"Between 10am and 11am, a friend from NIS called, informing me that my son was being held by their people. I shared this information with my friends, and it was agreed that I should call Noordin Haji again. Despite multiple attempts, he did not answer," said Muturi.
The CS said he resolved to reach out to President William Ruto and travelled to the State House to meet him in person.
Muturi said he informed President Ruto that he had information Leslie was being held by NIS despite Haji previously denying it when Kindiki called him.
"I requested that he (Ruto) call Noordin Haji directly. Standing outside the pavilion, I heard the President ask Noordin Haji if he was holding my son, Noordin confirmed, that indeed he was holding my son and the President instructed him to release Leslie immediately. Noordin responded that Leslie would be released within an hour," added Muturi.
Later, Muturi said Leslie called him, informing him that he had been released.
