Cabinet Secretary for Mining Hassan Ali Joho, on Monday, took part in a high-level intergovernmental summit on the sidelines of the Mining Indaba, focused on deepening integration across Africa’s mining industry.

The summit brought together government officials, policymakers, and industry leaders to identify key priorities for unlocking Africa’s mineral potential.

Discussions centered on the development of cross-border energy and transport infrastructure, harmonization of mining policies, efforts to curb illegal mining, improved transparency in mining cadastres, and creating investor-friendly environments supported by innovative financing for regional economic corridors.

During the meeting, Joho emphasized Kenya’s strategic logistical position and well-developed infrastructure, noting that the country can serve as a gateway to improve mobility, trade, and value chains for critical minerals in the region and beyond.

“Kenya’s infrastructure can play a pivotal role in connecting Africa’s mineral resources to markets, supporting regional development and industrialization,” Joho said.

Participants also highlighted the importance of strengthening the African Minerals Strategy Group (AMSG) as a platform for coordinated policy action and Africa-led mineral development, ensuring that African countries take the lead in leveraging the continent’s mineral wealth.
