President William Ruto has defended the construction of a KSh 1.2 billion church at State House Nairobi, saying he has no regrets about the decision and insisting it is privately funded.

Speaking on Friday, July 4, from State House, the president dismissed criticism surrounding the project, saying he found an iron sheet structure serving as a church when he assumed office.

“When I was elected, I found an iron sheet church in State House. I have no apologies to make for building a church at State House,” Ruto said.

He clarified the concerns that clarifying that no taxpayer money is involved public funds might have been used for the project.

“I am building the church with my own money,” he added.

The planned church has brought mixed reactions online, with critics questioning the cost and timing of the project, especially with growing economic pressure on Kenyans.
