IG Kanja Joins President Ruto in Tour of Kilimani Police Housing Project

President William Ruto on Tuesday toured Kilimani Police Station in Nairobi to inspect the progress of an ongoing housing project for police officers, part of a larger plan to improve conditions for security personnel across the country.

The Kilimani project will deliver 540 new housing units and is among the first under the government’s broader plan to construct 27,000 units for police officers.
This initiative is under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda and the National Police Service’s 2023–2027 Strategic Plan.

The President was joined by Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja on the tour, alongside Lands and Housing Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome, Internal Security Principal Secretary Dr. Raymond Omollo, and Housing PS Charles Hinga.

President was also accompanied by top security and housing officials including DCI boss Mohamed Amin and Nairobi Regional Police Commander George Seda, he emphasized the importance of decent living conditions for police officers, noting that proper housing contributes to better service delivery and morale among officers tasked with maintaining peace and order.

“Security is the foundation of development, when our officers are well taken care of, they’re better placed to serve the country effectively.” said Ruto, addressing residents and officers at the site.

He also urged Kenyans to welcome peace, saying national stability is key to attracting investment and driving long-term growth.

The housing plan is seen as one way of taking care of a long-standing concerns over poor accommodation and overstretched facilities within the service.

Construction at Kilimani is expected to be completed in phases, with allocations to officers made through official channels.
