Ichung’wah Slams Gachagua

National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah has launched a blistering attack against former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of orchestrating political violence, spreading lies, and endangering national unity in a desperate bid to salvage his political career.

In a strongly-worded statement issued Wednesday, Ichung’wah broke his silence on what he described as “ridiculous and senseless accusations” from Gachagua, warning that the former deputy president’s actions now posed a serious threat to Kenya’s democracy and stability.

“There comes a time when silence is no longer a virtue, when the cost of staying quiet is the truth itself. That time is now,” Ichung’wah said.

He accused Gachagua of being the architect of his own downfall, dismissing claims that his impeachment was the result of a political witch-hunt. “The only person responsible for Gachagua’s political failure is Gachagua himself,” Ichung’wah stated. “His politics of lies, intimidation, and chaos brewed his own political demise.”

The Majority Leader linked Gachagua and his allies to the deadly violence that rocked Kikuyu on June 25, during which several lives were lost, property destroyed, and the Kikuyu Law Courts set ablaze. He alleged that the attacks were part of a “well-documented, coordinated attempt to destabilize democracy.”

Ichung’wah pointed to the recent arrest of Manyatta MP Gitonga Mukunji, whom he claims was caught on camera mobilising a group to loot Spur Mall along Thika Road, as part of what he called a wider “pattern of recklessness and blood-soaked ambition.”

He further warned that name-dropping President William Ruto or himself would not shield Gachagua or his allies from facing justice.

“We will not sit back and watch as criminals pose as martyrs,” Ichung’wah declared. “Justice is not found at press conferences or on social media. It is found in the courtroom.”

Dismissing Gachagua’s counter-allegations—including claims that MPs allied to him have been abducted and poisoned—as “sickening stage-plays,” Ichung’wah accused the former DP of inciting violence and turning his own community into political collateral.

“Never before in Mt. Kenya’s political history have we seen a leader who maims his own people for personal gain,” he said. “Instead of standing for his community, he is sacrificing it at the altar of selfish ambition.”

The Kikuyu MP warned that Gachagua’s tactics had moved beyond political rivalry into what he termed “madness,” saying his recent conduct was not only damaging to the Mt. Kenya region but also to the country’s broader peace and democratic order.

“He’s not just wetting his pants in fear,” Ichung’wah concluded. “He’s drowning in his own deceit.”

Ichung’wah called on investigative agencies to pursue any credible claims but maintained that Gachagua must be held accountable for the violence and destruction linked to his political wing.

The statement comes amid heightened political tensions and a widening rift within the ruling coalition, as allies of the President and Gachagua clash over leadership and succession politics in Mt. Kenya.
