Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba has urged secondary school heads across the country not to send students home due to delays in first-term capitation funds. Speaking during a quarterly meeting of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) principals at Eldoret National Polytechnic, Ogamba assured that his ministry is working closely with the Treasury to release the KSh 14 billion shortfall. He expressed optimism that the issue would be resolved by next week.

The CS reiterated that the government remains committed to financing secondary education through capitation and is making every effort to ensure the funds reach schools without further delays.

Ogamba also addressed concerns about the controversial university funding model, confirming that a presidential review team is finalizing its report. He assured stakeholders that a more efficient and sustainable model would be introduced by September to enhance access and affordability in higher education.

Emphasizing professionalism and integrity in public institutions, Ogamba warned against misconduct and political interference in the education sector. He stressed the need for education administrators to uphold transparency and accountability in managing government funds.

In a bid to expand technical education, Ogamba highlighted the government’s initiative to enroll between 3.5 and 4 million youth in TVET institutions. He underscored the importance of equipping young people with relevant skills for entrepreneurship and job creation, aligning with the government’s vision of enhancing vocational training.

His remarks come at a time when schools are grappling with financial constraints due to delayed funding, raising concerns among educators and parents. The ministry’s reassurance aims to stabilize learning activities as the government works to resolve the funding crisis.
