The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is facing heavy criticism on social media following the arrest of Grace Njoki Mulei, who interrupted a press conference on January 15 hosted by Health Cabinet Secretary Deborah Barasa to protest the inequalities within the Social Health Authority (SHA).
Njoki, who was seeking medical treatment at a hospital on Thursday, was arrested and later taken to Capitol Hill police station.
A video that quickly went viral shows her being forcibly dragged out of the hospital by officers while witnesses, including patients and hospital staff, watched in disbelief.
However, it was a post from the DCI on their official social media accounts that triggered widespread outrage.
Njoki being arrested at a hospital.
The agency claimed that they had tracked Njoki down to Hombe Road, off Juja Road, where they apprehended her.
This statement has sparked significant anger, with many Kenyans taking to social media to voice their displeasure with both the DCI and President William Ruto’s administration.
The DCI’s post received over 10,000 responses, most of which were critical, with many accusing the agency of engaging in a politically motivated crackdown on citizens who challenge the government.
She was locked at Capitol Hill Police Station.
Some also drew attention to the recent spate of abductions, linking them to the DCI’s actions.
