Busia County is preparing to host the 4th Edition of the Senate Mashinani sittings, scheduled to take place from September 23rd to 27th, 2024.
The Senate Planning Committee, led by Deputy Director of Legislative and Procedural Services Mr. Zakayo Mogere, visited the county recently to inspect the level of preparedness for the upcoming event.
The committee, representing the Clerk of the Senate Mr. Jeremiah Nyegenye, evaluated various facilities, including accommodation and health services, to ensure a smooth execution of the Senate Plenary and Committee sittings.
The Senate Mashinani initiative, an annual event, is designed to enhance the Senate’s working relationship with counties and facilitate public interaction at the grassroots level.
This initiative also allows legislators to assess the state of devolution in different regions. Previous Mashinani sittings have been held in Uasin Gishu, Kitui, and Turkana counties, with this year’s edition marking a significant milestone as it is hosted by Busia County, under the leadership of Host Senator Andrew Omtatah.
During a courtesy visit to the Busia County Assembly, the Senate Planning Committee was warmly received by Deputy Governor Arthur Odera, who extended the Governor Paul Otuoma’s support for the event.
“On behalf of the Governor, we are really happy to have the privilege to host the Senate sittings this year as this will provide us a unique opportunity to be on the radar of our country,” stated Deputy Governor Odera.
The forthcoming Senate Mashinani sittings in Busia County are anticipated to foster greater engagement between the Senate and local communities, highlighting the county’s commitment to advancing devolution and strengthening democratic processes at the local level.
