President William Ruto on Friday during his visit to coastal region announced a strategic investment aimed at transforming the country’s fishing sector.

The initiative, part of the Bottom-Up Economic Development Agenda, seeks to harness the untapped potential of the blue economy, projected to generate over Sh120 billion annually and create jobs for thousands of young Kenyans.

This funding is intended to empower local fishing communities, improve infrastructure, and promote sustainable practices within the industry.

“Fishing is a key component of our Bottom-Up Economic Development Agenda. That is why we are investing in our blue economy to unlock its huge potential,” President Ruto stated.

He emphasized that this targeted investment would not only enhance the livelihoods of coastal communities but also contribute significantly to the national economy.

The event was attended by several key regional leaders, including Governors Abdullswamad Nassir (Mombasa), Fatuma Achani (Kwale), Issa Timamy (Lamu), and Godhana Dhadho (Tana River), alongside Members of Parliament (MPs) and Members of County Assemblies (MCAs).
