President William Ruto on Friday during his coastal tour inaugurated the construction of the KSh50 million Watamu Market in Kilifi County.

This project is a key component of a broader initiative to build 400 modern fresh produce markets across Kenya.

Speaking at the foundation stone-laying ceremony in Watamu, President Ruto highlighted the importance of these markets in providing traders with safe and dignified working conditions.

“The 400 modern, fresh produce markets that we are building guarantee our traders decent and safe working spaces to do business in dignified environments,” he stated.

The Watamu Market is one of eight new markets being developed in the region, reflecting the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure and supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

These markets are expected to not only offer better facilities for traders but also boost local economies by providing organized spaces for business operations.
