Athletics Kenya (AK) will on Monday begin a nationwide public participation drive to review and amend its constitution, marking a major step toward aligning the federation’s governance with the Sports Act, 2013.

The exercise, undertaken in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports and in consultation with athletics stakeholders, seeks to ensure that AK’s structures and operations comply with Section 46 of the Act.

Through the forums, athletes, coaches, officials, and athletics enthusiasts across the country will have an opportunity to share their views and recommendations on the proposed constitutional changes that will shape the federation’s future.

The consultations will be held across various regions as follows:

  • Monday: Garissa Primary Hall will host participants from Mandera, Wajir, and Garissa counties, while Turkana, Trans Nzoia, West Pokot, and Samburu representatives will meet at Kapenguria Mtelo Hall.
  • Tuesday: The exercise moves to Eldoret Sports Club, bringing together delegates from Uasin Gishu, Nandi, Baringo, and Elgeyo Marakwet — the heartland of Kenyan athletics.
  • Wednesday: Forums will take place at Kinoru Stadium for Marsabit, Isiolo, Meru, Tharaka, and Embu, while Kakamega, Bungoma, Vihiga, and Busia participants will gather at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology Hall.
  • Thursday: Sessions will be held at Ruring’u Stadium (Nyeri) for Nyandarua, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, and Kiambu, and simultaneously at Kisumu Social Hall for Kisumu, Homa Bay, and Siaya counties.
  • Friday: The meetings will be hosted at Machakos County Hall for Machakos, Makueni, and Kitui, and at St. Vincent Pastoral Centre (Kisii) for Kisii, Migori, and Nyamira.
  • Saturday: The Coastal region forum will take place at Ziwani School for the Deaf, Mombasa, involving Kilifi, Mombasa, Kwale, Tana River, Taita Taveta, and Lamu, while Nakuru Old Town Hall will host representatives from Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kajiado, and Laikipia.

The Nairobi session will be held on November 12 at Nyayo National Stadium, followed by consultations for AK affiliates — the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), Prisons, and Police — at the same venue on November 13.

The series will conclude on November 14 at Nyayo Stadium, where sponsors, partners, and media representatives will have their chance to present input and recommendations before the final draft is prepared.
