The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) has suspended 149 referees and assistant referees following an investigation that uncovered widespread betting among professional match officials in the country.
Those involved received bans ranging from eight to twelve months, depending on the severity of their actions, while investigations into three additional officials remain ongoing.
The TFF published the full list of those penalized on its official website.
The probe, which spanned five years, revealed that 371 of Turkey’s 571 match officials held betting accounts, with 152 of them actively placing bets.
Some officials were found to have wagered only once, while 42 placed bets on over 1,000 football matches. One official reportedly made an astonishing 18,227 bets.
Under TFF disciplinary rules, as well as those of FIFA and UEFA, referees and other match officials are strictly prohibited from participating in any form of betting activity.
