Women in the coast region have been urged to take up more leadership roles in politics ahead of the 2027 general elections and other prominent positions in social spaces.

Speaking during a multisectoral women leadership training in Mombasa County that brought together women political leaders and aspirants from the region’s six counties, culture, religion and finances were cited as major hurdles in women’s ascension to political positions.

At the same time Joseph Maathai, Elections and Governance Expert, lauded the women who venture into politics for their resilience. He further challenged them to be more strategic in taking up the political positions if they are to clinch the positions they vie for.
