Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i has announced his intention to run for the presidency in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during his much-anticipated homecoming at Gusii Stadium, Matiang’i said he is ready to offer himself for leadership, citing his record of service during President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration.

“For ten years, I worked tirelessly under President Kenyatta’s government, and the country achieved significant progress,” said Matiang’i.

The former CS emphasized that Kenya is grappling with serious challenges and called on citizens to remain united despite the difficult times.

“We have so many challenges, let’s not pretend. Let’s not get divided and end up destroying our country,” he said.

Matiang’i, who has been working abroad since leaving office, revealed that he has received numerous calls urging him to return home and help restore the country’s direction. He said he will be resigning from his job overseas to focus fully on the 2027 race.

“I’m known to be a hard worker. Working is not a problem. If given a chance, I am ready to serve this country. Come 2027, we shall cross over,” he told the cheering crowd.

Matiang’i’s declaration now sets the stage for what could be a heated contest in the next general election as more leaders signal interest in the country’s top seat.
