Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy, William Kabogo, hosted a delegation from TikTok at the Ministry’s headquarters on Monday.

The meeting was led by TikTok’s Director of Communication and aimed to strengthen partnerships between the Kenyan government and the popular social media platform.

Kenya has emerged as a significant hub for TikTok usage, with the country accounting for a substantial 54% of the platform’s activity in 2023.

This has opened up vast opportunities for Kenyan content creators to monetize their work and reach a global audience.

During the meeting, CS Kabogo emphasized the need for enhanced collaboration between the Ministry and TikTok.

He highlighted the importance of ensuring that Kenyan creators earn competitively on the platform, similar to their counterparts in other countries. This initiative aligns with the government’s broader strategy to foster a thriving digital economy that benefits all Kenyans.

“We are committed to creating an environment where our digital economy flourishes, and our content creators can compete on a global scale,” CS Kabogo stated. “We look forward to working closely with TikTok to achieve this goal.”

The meeting also touched on the potential for TikTok to support Kenya’s digital transformation agenda, which includes initiatives to enhance digital infrastructure and promote innovation.

As part of this effort, the government is focusing on advancing digital literacy and ensuring that Kenyan youth are equipped to leverage social media platforms responsibly.

The collaboration between the Ministry and TikTok is expected to yield significant benefits for Kenyan content creators and contribute to the country’s ongoing digital growth.
