National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has called for an end to what he described as the emerging culture of goonism in Kenyan politics, urging voters to assess leaders based on their track records.
Wetang’ula said peaceful and issue-based campaigns would be critical to ensuring a credible electoral process as the country prepares for the 2027 General Election.
“We must end the culture of goonism and vet leaders based on their track records. Peaceful, issue-based campaigns are crucial to a credible electoral process as we head into next year’s General Election,” Wetang’ula said.
He spoke during an empowerment programme in support of BUCOE Sacco at Likuyani Constituency, Kakamega County, held at the invitation of Likuyani MP Innocent Mugabe.
Wetang’ula also highlighted the role of the cooperative movement in promoting wealth creation and expanding community-owned financial institutions.

He said cooperatives provide Kenyans with opportunities to save, borrow and invest locally and nationally, contributing to economic empowerment and growth.

The Speaker also urged Kenyans to assess the development record of the William Ruto administration ahead of the 2027 elections.
“Together with other leaders, I emphasized the need for Kenyans to critically analyze and appreciate the development track record of the President William Ruto administration, which, without a doubt, strongly qualifies him for reelection,” he said.

Wetang’ula’s remarks come as political activity intensifies ahead of the 2027 General Election, with leaders calling for issue-based campaigns and peaceful political competition.
