Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has urged United Democratic Alliance (UDA) grassroots officials to take an active role in defending the government’s record as Kenya enters the election year.

Speaking in Irunduni, Tharaka Nithi County, on Friday, August 21, Kindiki said UDA remains the only political party with elected officials at every polling centre across the country.

The Deputy President said the party’s 20 officials stationed at each polling centre form the frontline team responsible for explaining the government’s progress and defending its manifesto ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Kindiki said the grassroots officials have a key responsibility in communicating what he described as the administration’s achievements since it assumed office in August 2022.

He cited efforts to stabilise the economy, improve agricultural productivity, strengthen education and healthcare, create jobs and expand rural electrification and sports facilities.

“These are the foot soldiers for defending our track record,” Kindiki said, while challenging the officials to counter what he termed misleading narratives from political outfits seeking support through “lies and empty chants and slogans.”

The Deputy President met about 15,000 grassroots UDA officials drawn from across Tharaka Nithi County, congratulating them on their election and formally commissioning them to mobilise support for the party and government.

The mobilisation comes as political parties intensify grassroots activities ahead of the 2027 elections.
