Motorists on the Waiyaki Way, Limuru Road and Mai Mahiu Road need to expect traffic disruption in the coming two months following the planned closure of the Rironi/Kamandura Interchange.
The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) on Tuesday said the interchange will be shut down between Friday, August 22, and October 31, 2025, to facilitate reconstruction work.
Some of the work to be undertaken in the project includes the reconstruction of slip roads, loops and approach roads around the busy junction.
KeNHA has requested motorists to use bypass routes during the duration. Those moving from Waiyaki Way to Mai Mahiu have been instructed to divert immediately after Rubis Tilisi at the Old Naivasha Road and drive straight to Mai Mahiu.
Drivers heading to Nairobi from Mai Mahiu will be diverted through Mutarakwa Junction onto Limuru Road and then onto Waiyaki Way at Kwa Mbira Flyover.
Ruaka, Ndenderu and Kabuku motorists will also be diverted through Limuru Town to rejoind the highway at Kwa Mbira.
The highways body assured motorists that police officers and traffic marshals will be deployed at strategic points to manage traffic and congestion.
It also appealed to road users to obey traffic signs and use patience as the works progress.
The shutdown occurs when KeNHA is undertaking a series of road works across the country.
On Monday, the agency also ordered the temporary shutdown of the Makupa Bridge–Changamwe Interchange section of the Mombasa–Nairobi Highway for construction and drainage work.
