Tension remains high in Kona Mbaya, Matunda, along the Kitale-Eldoret highway, following the death of a man under unclear circumstances and the subsequent shooting of two young women during protests.

The deceased, identified as Sydney, died on Sunday after allegedly being attacked at his home by Simon Siashipira, a Nyumba Kumi committee member. The motive behind the attack remains unknown, and investigations into the incident are ongoing.

News of Sydney’s death sparked outrage among area residents, who took to the streets in protest. However, the demonstrations turned deadly when police officers responded to the unrest. The confrontation escalated when irate residents torched Siashipira’s house, prompting law enforcement to intervene.In the chaos that followed, two young women were allegedly shot dead by police officers.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear, with residents accusing the police of using excessive force.Local leaders and community members are now demanding justice for all three victims, calling on authorities to ensure those responsible are held accountable. “We want justice. Those who killed Sydney and the two girls must face the law,” one protester said.

Security personnel have since been deployed to the area to restore calm as investigations continue. Meanwhile, human rights groups have condemned the killings, urging the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) and other relevant bodies to conduct thorough inquiries into the police response.

Authorities have assured residents that justice will be served, but tensions remain high, with many fearing further violence if immediate action is not taken.
