President William Ruto is set to begin a development tour of the Coast region on Saturday, with nearly 200,000 title deeds and a KSh2 trillion refinery project among the major highlights of his visit.
Ruto will tour Taita-Taveta, Kwale, Kilifi, Mombasa, Tana River and Lamu counties as he assesses government projects and engages residents and local leaders on development priorities.
The President will begin the tour in Taita-Taveta, where he is expected to issue 31,318 title deeds to residents of Mwatate and Voi constituencies.
He will then proceed to Kwale on Monday, where 94,175 title deeds will be issued to beneficiaries in Lunga Lunga, Msambweni and Kinango constituencies.
In Kilifi, a total of 36,826 title deeds will be issued to residents of Kaloleni, Rabai, Ganze, Kilifi South and Malindi constituencies.
A further 4,360 title deeds will be distributed in Mombasa, while 22,770 will go to beneficiaries in Lamu and Tana River counties.
The distribution forms part of the government’s wider plan to issue 500,000 title deeds as it seeks to address longstanding land ownership and squatter challenges in the Coast region.
For thousands of beneficiaries, the documents are expected to provide formal proof of ownership and allow them to use their land for economic activities, including investment and development.
The President will also break ground for a new refinery in Lamu, a project valued at $16 billion and expected to be jointly undertaken by the Kenyan Government and Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote.
The refinery is expected to process crude oil from Turkana’s Lokichar fields and supply refined petroleum products to markets across East and Central Africa.
The project is also expected to strengthen Kenya’s energy security while creating employment opportunities and supporting economic activity in the region.
During the tour, Ruto is expected to commission completed projects, inspect ongoing works and launch new projects across the six counties.
The Coast tour comes as the government seeks to accelerate development projects in the region while addressing longstanding concerns over land ownership, infrastructure and economic opportunities.
The President’s engagements will also bring together local leaders and residents as he assesses the progress of government programmes and outlines the administration’s development priorities for the region.
