The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has dismissed allegations that its leader, Raila Odinga, called a meeting with party MPs regarding the impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
In an official statement, the party clarified, “There is no such meeting scheduled for today. Have a good day.”
This statement was in response to a digital card circulating online, which claimed that the gathering was intended to strategize on the impeachment amidst growing public dissatisfaction with the current administration.
This announcement comes as the National Assembly prepares to discuss Gachagua’s impeachment motion on Tuesday.
ODM’s deputy party leader and Kisii Governor, Simba Arati, emphasized last week that the party is not involved in the Deputy President’s potential ousting.
While addressing ODM delegates in Migori at the Lichota Show Ground, Arati stated that the ongoing impeachment process is within Parliament’s jurisdiction and authority.
He assured that Parliament would thoroughly evaluate and render a decision on the impeachment motion according to the law.
He further expressed that ODM will respect and support the conclusions reached by both houses of Parliament, affirming their right to govern this matter.
