Two Members of County Assembly (MCAs) are in legal trouble over separate felony cases that have drawn national attention and raised questions about the integrity of elected leaders.
In Nairobi, Ikanga Ward MCA Cyrus Musyoka Kisavi from Kitui County was arrested on Tuesday afternoon over the alleged theft of mobile phone accessories worth Ksh.1.9 million. The items were reported stolen on February 8 by Buscar Courier Services.
Detectives say Musyoka was captured on CCTV taking the parcel, which was meant for a client in Mombasa. He was arrested at the courier’s River Road office after being positively identified and later handed over to Mombasa detectives for processing.
Meanwhile in Kajiado, Oloosirkon Ward MCA Stephen Rais Kisemei Marush was arraigned and charged with misuse of a firearm, obstruction of police officers, and creating a disturbance.
The charges stem from a December 2023 incident where the MCA allegedly led a mob armed with sticks and knives to interfere with police officers executing arrests related to an assault case.
Marush is accused of freeing a suspect from a police vehicle and threatening officers while wielding a pistol. The matter was investigated by DCI Isinya, and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) gave consent for prosecution.
Both cases have sparked public concern over abuse of office and disregard for the rule of law among elected leaders.
