The Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards today hosted Dr. Sarah Imam, Director of Health Sciences at The Citadel Military College in South Carolina, USA, for a high-level consultative meeting aimed at deepening collaboration in community health outreach.

The meeting focused on aligning the ongoing Citadel Free Medical Camp initiative with Kenya’s national health priorities.

Over the past four years, this initiative has delivered essential healthcare services to underserved urban areas including Kibera, Kayole, and Kariobangi communities that often face barriers in accessing quality medical care.

In the discussions, both parties emphasized the importance of tailoring outreach programs to complement government efforts, particularly in areas of preventative care, maternal and child health, and non-communicable diseases.

“The Ministry values strategic partnerships that enhance community-based interventions and promote equitable access to healthcare,” said the Principal Secretary. “This collaboration also offers opportunities for mutual skills exchange between Kenyan health professionals and international medical volunteers.”

Dr. Imam reaffirmed The Citadel’s commitment to supporting Kenya’s health goals through continued collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and volunteer engagement.

The Ministry underscored that strengthening such partnerships is central to its ongoing efforts to build resilient, inclusive, and people-centred health systems in line with the government’s Universal Health Coverage agenda.
