President William Ruto has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to empowering small enterprises and improving livelihoods through investments in modern markets and affordable housing.
During his visit to Taita Taveta County, President Ruto inspected the newly built KSh50 million Maungu Market, which will accommodate 200 traders. The project aims to provide a safe, clean, and organized business space for small-scale traders, boosting economic growth in the region.
“Small enterprises are the backbone of our economy. They create jobs, drive innovation, and promote inclusive growth. By building modern markets, we are ensuring that traders have a safe and clean place to do business,” President Ruto stated.

Traders in Maungu welcomed the initiative, saying the improved infrastructure would enhance their working conditions and attract more customers.
Earlier in the day, President Ruto also launched the construction of the 458-unit Voi Pool House Affordable Housing Project, part of the government’s Affordable Housing Agenda aimed at providing decent and affordable homes for Kenyans.
“This project will not only provide homes but also create jobs for our youth. Many people will be employed during construction, and once completed, residents will have access to quality housing at affordable rates,” the President said.
The housing project is set to benefit low- and middle-income earners in Voi, addressing the housing shortage and improving living conditions in the region. Infrastructure and housing officials at the event assured the public that the project would be completed on schedule and built to high standards.
