The Senate has officially commenced the hearing and debate on the impeachment motion against Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo, following his ouster by the Isiolo County Assembly.

The Senate opted for a full plenary trial after rejecting a motion to establish an 11-member special committee to investigate the allegations against Governor Guyo.

Senior Council  Elisha Ngoya argued that  the motion by Isiolo County Assembly  did not meet the threshold after  the court of competent jurisdiction termed his impeachment as null and void and of no legal consequences.

The petitioners on the orther hand vowed to give evidence at opportune time to show that there was vandalism in the offices of the county assembly orchestrated by the Governor.  They further allege that there  is attempt by governor to try and scuttle the impeachments proceedings.

Governor Guyo was impeached last week on allegations of abuse of office, violation of the Constitution, and gross misconduct. Sixteen out of 18 Members of the County Assembly  who voted to impeach him on June 26, 2025, accused him of irregularly appointing 36 advisors and 31 chief officers, awarding flawed contracts, and stalling development projects in the county.

The senate have adjourned and will resume the sitting at 2:30 pm with the Governor’s council expected to make their submissions before the senate proceed to make its determination.
