President William Ruto on Sunday hosted Sierra Leone President Julius Maada Bio at State House Nairobi ahead of the highly anticipated Africa Forward Summit set to begin on Monday.

In a statement released after the meeting, President Ruto said Kenya and Sierra Leone continue to enjoy strong bilateral relations founded on mutual respect, pan-Africanism, and the shared goal of promoting regional stability across the continent.

The Head of State noted that the two countries remain committed to strengthening cooperation in advancing Africa’s interests on the global stage, particularly in pushing for reforms in the international financial system and global governance structures.

“Kenya and Sierra Leone maintain strong and close ties anchored on mutual respect, pan-Africanism and regional stability. Our two governments will continue working together to advance our mutual interests and the African agenda,’President Ruto said.

According to President Ruto, Kenya and Sierra Leone are also aligned on the need for reforms at the United Nations Security Council as African nations continue advocating for fair representation in global decision-making bodies.

The leaders further discussed climate action and the importance of African countries speaking with one voice on matters affecting the continent during international engagements.

President Ruto said the Africa Forward Summit will provide a crucial platform for leaders and policymakers to exchange ideas on governance, economic transformation, and Africa’s future development agenda.

During the talks, President Ruto also informed President Bio about Kenya’s candidature for a judge position at the International Criminal Court (ICC).

The Kenyan leader appealed to Sierra Leone to support the candidature of Supreme Court Judge Njoki Ndung’u for the prestigious international position.
