The local police in Laikipia county have broken into a house at Likii River where people were making illicit Chang’aa by illegal means.
During the operation, police found the illegal alcohol, which totaled to almost 2700 liters, together with the machinery used for distillation.
Police from the Nanyuki Station carried out this targeted raid on the premises on August 13, 2026 as an outcome of the police operation.
Besides the distill liquor, the police also found a setup made of this items: three 100, liter metallic drums, three jikos, three aluminium sufurias for condensing the vapour from Chang’aa and three metal sinks which were for coolers. These findings indicate a set up with capacity to produce illegal liquor regularly.
They discovered 12 plastic tanks, 10, liter size each, which held some 2, 120 liters of Kangara. Authorities destroyed the illegal alcoholic drinks at the site of seizure.
In addition, they also found and seized 100 liters of Chang’aa contained in five yellow 20, litre plastic jerrycans.
The National Police Service said the raid forms part of ongoing efforts to disrupt the production and distribution of illicit brews, which pose risks to public safety.
Investigations are underway to identify and apprehend individuals linked to the illegal brewing operation. Authorities have also urged the public to report illicit brewing activities.
