Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) forensic expert Peter Omolo Awino has earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Leadership and Governance from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).
Dr. Awino graduated on August 14, 2026, during JKUAT’s 46th Graduation Ceremony, marking a significant milestone in his career with the National Police Service (NPS).
His doctoral research examined security governance practices and their impact on the performance of the National Police Service in Kenya. The study also proposed practical policy recommendations aimed at strengthening police effectiveness.
According to the DCI, Awino pursued his doctoral studies while balancing demanding responsibilities in criminal investigations, professional duties and family commitments.
His academic journey includes a Master of Science in Security Studies, Bachelor’s degrees in Conflict Resolution and Peace Building and Counselling Psychology, as well as a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
Awino began his policing career with the Kenya Railways Police before serving in the Diplomatic Police. He currently works at the National Police Service Forensic Laboratory at DCI Headquarters.
He has also contributed to combating insurance fraud and trained officers in criminal and forensic investigations.
The DCI said his achievement demonstrates the importance of continuous learning, professionalism and commitment to strengthening Kenya’s security institutions.
