In the center of New York City, where the Empire State Building pierces the skyline, a Russian couple turned the landmark into a stage for daring act of love and defiance.

In a video shot by a United States helicopter, showed the couple standing on a 1,454 feet tall building, dressed in black, appearing to kiss on top of the iconic skyscraper with a banner reading, “When the power of love beats the love of power the world knows peace.”

Descending to a lower platform on the antenna, the man dropped to one knee proposing to his partner, who accepted the proposal as the moment turned into a celebration.

However, security was swift to respond as the couple descended the tower; the police arrested them and identified the Russian couple as Vanya Beerkus and Angela Nikolau. They will be arraigned in court facing charges of trespassing and endangerment.

Their climb has raised concern about safety and security at one of the world’s most iconic landmarks in the world. Authorities are now investigating on how they bypassed restrictions and the risk they pose to themselves and others.
