President William Ruto has dismissed speculation that he is courting Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka ahead of the 2027 elections, stating that political realignments are the least of his concerns at the moment.
Speaking on Thursday evening during a media engagement at the Kitui State Lodge, President Ruto brushed aside reports suggesting he was reaching out to Kalonzo, saying he would not be drawn into premature political conversations.
“As to matters regarding the relationship between political parties, those are just politics,” Ruto said, maintaining a composed tone. “I am not here to discuss matters of politics.”
The President emphasized that his priority remains development, not the shifting winds of alliances and counter-alliances that often dominate Kenya’s political scene.
“I am here to discuss the development of the great people of Ukambani,” he said. “Matters of politics we will discuss when the right time comes, and everyone knows how they will handle their political issues.”
Ruto’s remarks come amid reports that he was actively courting both Kalonzo and DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa in what insiders described as a strategy to politically isolate Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
However, both Kalonzo and Wamalwa have since dismissed the claims, insisting they have no plans of abandoning the opposition or joining Ruto’s administration.
At the same briefing, Ruto also addressed the progress of national development projects, revealing that his government had prioritized completing several projects inherited from former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“The former President recently said that it took him about two and a half years to complete most of the projects started by his predecessor,” Ruto noted. “And I have also done just like him.”
With speculation swirling and political camps repositioning as 2027 approaches, the President’s message was clear: the politics can wait at least for now.
