President William Ruto on Wednesday, January 1, made an impromptu inspection of the ongoing renovation of the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega County.

However, during the inspection, President Ruto was displeased at the pace at which the facility is being renovated and read a riot act to the contractor.

"You cannot hold us ransom. You are a notorious contractor for abandoning projects. You start work here, do a little, then move on to another site, do a little there. That is not acceptable," said President Ruto.

The head of state, in turn, ordered the contractor to complete the 30,000-seater stadium by June 2026 without fail.

President Ruto ordered the ministries of Sports and Public Works to review the progress made so far and ensure the project is completed on time.
