Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja on Monday, May 19, 2025, officially opened the Senior Criminal Investigations Officers’ Seminar at the National Criminal Investigations Academy (NCIA) in Nairobi, calling for integrity, innovation, and professionalism in the fight against modern crime.

IG Kanja was received by the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Mr. Mohammed Amin, alongside NCIA Commandant Mr. Sospeter Munyi, SAIG. The seminar brings together 40 senior commanders from Regional and County Criminal Investigation Offices, along with key section heads across the country.

Held at the prestigious NCIA—established in 1974 and recognized as a Regional Centre of Excellence in 2014—the seminar is designed to encourage the sharing of investigative strategies, promote inter-agency collaboration, and equip senior officers with modern tools and perspectives to counter emerging criminal threats.

“Leadership in criminal investigations today demands more than command—it requires integrity, collaboration, and innovation. Our officers must be prepared to lead ethically, act decisively, and embrace modern investigative tools,” said Kanja.

He reaffirmed his commitment to enhancing the operational independence of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and supporting institutional reforms aimed at building capacity, recognizing excellence, and motivating officers on the frontlines of justice.

Prominent attendees included Deputy Commandant NCIA Mr. Stephen Chacha, AIG; Director of Logistics DCI Ms. Janet Shako, AIG; Director of Complaints DCI Mr. Bernard Nyakwaka, AIG; Director of Planning DCI Mr. Barasa Walumoli, AIG; Director of Inspections DCI Mr. Meme Mwenda, AIG; Director of Liaison Mr. John Marete, CP; Personal Assistant to the DCI Mr. Lawrence Some, CP; Dean of Studies NPLA Ms. Sicily Gatiti, CP; and Personal Assistant to the IG Mr. James Murithi, SSP.
