President William Ruto has left the country for Ghana to grace the inauguration ceremony of the country’s President-elect, John Dramani Mahama.
Mahama had extended a special invitation to President Ruto to the inauguration during his visit to Kenya on December 29, 2024.
While in Accra, President Ruto will hold talks with Mahama and other countries’ presidents, focusing on key areas of mutual interest and cooperation, including trade, energy, oil, textiles, agriculture and diplomatic relations.
The head of state will also use the visit to discuss reforms of the African Union that are aimed at improving institutional efficiency and strategic focus.
Ruto will also use the opportunity to drum up support for Raila Odinga’s candidacy for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairperson position by highlighting his pan-African vision and proven leadership credentials.
Notably, Mahama had pledged to support Raila in the vote slated for February 2025.
