Celebrations broke out at the ruling United Democratic Alliance’s (UDA) party headquarters along Ngong Road after the ouster of Cleophas Malala as the outfit’s secretary general.
Malala was sacked after the party’s National Executive Committee’s (NEC) consultative deliberations in an emergency meeting convened on Friday, August 2.
Consequently, the President William Ruto-led political party designated its vice chairman, Hassan Omar, to act as the secretary general on an interim basis.

Shortly after the changes, the excited party staff broke into songs and danced to celebrate the move.
They accused Malala of stagnating many party programmes saying his ouster would help move the party forward.
As captured in videos, the staff, while carrying twigs and shouting “SG SG” on top of their voices, welcomed Hassan to the office to discharge his new mandate.
In his first address as the acting SG, Hassan affirmed that he was ready to elevate the party to new heights.
The revocation of Malala’s appointment follows a series of infighting in the party over the position.
As earlier reported on TUKIO.co.ke, anti-riot police officers were on Wednesday, July 31, deployed at UDA party headquarters along Ngong Road after protesters stormed the offices.

In the incident, the supporters of Malala camped at The Hustler’s Plaza affirming his position. Armed with placards, the youth chanted pro-Malala slogans.
This follows another unfortunate incident on Tuesday, July 30, where Malala was kicked out of the position by a faction claiming to be the UDA founder members.
In the occurrence, Joe Khalende, who is a party member, addressed the media announcing that he had taken over as the party secretary general, assuming the position of Malala.
When he visited the party on Wednesday, Khalende was attacked by the protesting goons and sustained a cut on the forehead.
Party chairperson Cecily Mbarire regretted the incidents, terming them unfortunate and serious violations of the party constitution and principles.
