Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has reignited political tensions in the Mt. Kenya region, openly accusing former DP Rigathi Gachagua of fueling division and ethnic politics as the Mbeere North by-election heats up.
Speaking to residents during campaign stopovers, Kindiki did not hold back painting his predecessor as a leader who “failed the region” and now lacks the influence he once claimed.
He criticised the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader for portraying himself as the Mt. Kenya political kingpin, despite what he termed as an unimpressive development record during Gachagua’s brief stint as Deputy President.
“He is coming here with charm offensives for the opposition candidate, presenting himself as the de facto leader of this region, yet he did nothing for you, the people of Mbeere North,” Kindiki told residents.
The Deputy President urged voters to make what he called a well-considered choice by backing Muthende, whom he described as the most capable candidate to push ongoing development projects started by former MP Geoffrey Ruku now serving as a Cabinet Secretary.
Kindiki expressed confidence that UDA would win the by-election by a wide margin, promising the opposition what he termed an “epic battle.”
