Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has pledged to involve Kenyans living abroad in national development, saying their expertise, technology and resources will be critical in rebuilding the country.
Speaking in Spokane, Washington State, during his tour of the United States, Gachagua engaged Kenyans on investor confidence, partnerships and their role in shaping Kenya’s future.
He said many Kenyans in the diaspora are disappointed by what he described as rising lawlessness, unconstitutional practices, conflicts of interest and economic sabotage in the country.
Gachagua also raised concerns over the use of remittances sent by Kenyans abroad, saying despite their hard work and significant financial contributions, there is little visible impact in how the resources were utilised back home.
He said that if a new government is formed within the next 338 days, it would seek the expertise of the Kenyan diaspora to support national development.
Gachagua promised that Kenyans worldwide would be brought together to leverage technology, share knowledge and work collaboratively with the new administration.
He said the ultimate goal would be to create a Kenya where skilled citizens can work, thrive and find opportunities at home rather than seeking them abroad.
