Shortly after concluding his China state visit, President William Ruto is currently at the Vatican City, Rome in Italy, for the burial of His Holiness Pope Francis, which is taking place at St. Peter’s Square.

Images shared on the head of state’s socials showed him being received by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula after he arrived in Rome.

President Ruto joined other high-profile world leaders gracing the mass, including United States President Donald Trump.

African presidents expected to be in attendance, as confirmed by the Vatican, include Angola’s President Joao Lourenco, Cape Verde’s President Jose Maria Neves, and DR Congo’s President Felix Tshisekedi.

Others are President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema of Gabon, President Faustin-Archange Touadera of the Central African Republic, and Mozambique’s President Daniel Chapo.

Pope Francis’s body, dressed in red papal vestments with a white mitre and rosary beads clutched in his hands, lay in a simple wooden coffin just as he had requested, rejecting the traditional raised catafalque.

His final resting place will be in Rome’s Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore, one of the city’s oldest churches.
