The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is mourning the death of its Mombasa County Organising Secretary, Peter Odhiambo, better known as Rainbow.
His death was confirmed by ODM Deputy Party Leader and Governor of Mombasa, Abdulswamad Nassir, who posted a condolence message on behalf of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who is out of the country on official duties.
In his announcement, Nassir referred to Odhiambo as being among the party’s most dedicated grassroots organisers, saying his dedication and commitment left a lasting legacy in ODM’s trace in Mombasa and across the Coast region.
“On behalf of our Party Leader, Raila Odinga, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the ODM fraternity and people of Mombasa on the passing of our County Organising Secretary, Peter ‘Rainbow’ Odhiambo,” the Governor said.
We join his family, friends, and the entire ODM fraternity in the loss of this great colleague. May his memory continue to motivate us to further deepen the movement he so diligently served,” he said.
Nassir declared Odhiambo’s energy, dedication, and unshakeable trust in ODM’s vision would be deeply felt.
Odhiambo was a familiar figure in Mombasa politics and was usually at the center of the party mobilization and activities.
His closest colleagues who worked with him up close described him as passionate, friendly, and always ready to work.
His sudden demise has caused shockwaves in many, and party leaders and fans have taken to the social media to put up their memories and tributes to a man who they affirm did his best to advance ODM’s agenda at the grassroots.
Odhiambo’s passing is an inopportune moment for the party, which has lost some of its best members this year, such as Volley Among’o, Chairperson of Awendo Ward, who died in July, and Jorim Olweny, Chairman of Muhoroni-Koru Ward, who passed away in May.
To ODM, Rainbow was a party cadre, but above all, he was a friend, mentor, and a staunch believer in the movement’s ideals. His death, they say, will be deeply felt in Mombasa’s political family.
