YouTuber and content creator Ninah, part of the Gospel duo Wapendwa Muziki, has addressed the backlash surrounding her recent remarks about her husband, Mesh.
Ninah, who enjoys a large online following, sparked a lively debate when she referred to Mesh as a ‘kafukuswi’ in a recent video. In the clip, Ninah was seen advising her husband to be more composed and confident, especially when in public. She recalled an instance when the Wajesus family surprised them with a house makeover, and Mesh became emotional, crying during the visit.
Feeling frustrated by his emotional reaction, Ninah used the term ‘kafukuswi’ to encourage him to show more strength and control over his emotions.
“I don’t like how you act as if you’re not in control… The other day, they surprised us with a house makeover, and you cried like a child. I want you to be strong—mind your speech, your posture. I don’t like seeing you show too much emotion.”
Her comments caused a stir online, with many questioning if it was appropriate for Ninah to publicly criticize her husband in such a manner. While some people thought her words were too harsh, others believed she was simply trying to encourage him to be more confident. In response to the criticism, Ninah took to social media to explain her intentions. She clarified that she meant no disrespect to her husband and was only trying to help him improve.
She explained that when she first met Mesh, he lacked confidence and needed support. Ninah emphasized that she had helped him grow, transforming him from a man with little self-assurance to the person he is today.
“Ladies, if you want your man to be successful, you need to groom him. When I met my husband, he was like a ‘malenge’ (pumpkin)—actually, a ‘malenge promax.’ I loved him, but I knew he needed some work. I started guiding him, and now my husband is an incredible singer. I taught him how to sing.”
