Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro has defended the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF), terming it an essential instrument for grassroots development.

Speaking on Wednesday during a tour of the newly renovated and landscaped St. Mary’s Primary School in Kiharu, Nyoro said the fund has transformed education and community projects across constituencies.

He urged the government to increase allocations to the kitty instead of questioning its relevance.“The NG-CDF has a direct impact on the lives of our people. From schools to bursaries, it is the one tool that ensures development is felt at the grassroots. We should be talking about expanding it, not debating whether it should exist,” Nyoro said.

The legislator further stressed the importance of bursaries, noting that education in Kenya is not completely free. He called on the government to increase annual capitation per student to KSh 32,000 to cushion parents from the rising cost of education.

“Bursaries remain necessary because families are still burdened by additional costs. Raising capitation to 32,000 shillings per learner will go a long way in ensuring no child is left behind,” he added.

Nyoro’s remarks come at a time when debates around the sustainability and structure of the NG-CDF continue to attract public and legal scrutiny.
